The acclaimed Egyptian star Gamila Awad celebrated her birthday on Thursday, April 5, and received a large number of congratulatory messages on her official social media platforms.

Awad, who is regarded as one of the finest actresses of her generation, turned today.

As we celebrate actress Gamila Awad on her birth anniversary, here's a look at some of her best photos as a young actress with her family and the late remarkable comedian-actor Mohamed Awad.

Awad was born in Abbaseya district in Cairo on 12 July 1932. He got a degree in literature from Ain Shams University in 1957.

In 1962, Awd received a diploma in theatrical arts from the High Institute of Theatrical Arts.

Moreover, his talents appeared in his early childhood and he continued practicing during his university years.

Later, the ambitious young man joined the television’s theatrical team, where his fame started with the play “Lady Golfedan”.

After this successful play, he started his career in the cinema.

While the talented Awad gained stage experience at the beginning of the sixties, his unique elements were the standard features of the Egyptian theatre renaissance of the mid-sixties, at the time of television theatre companies, and the beginning of the United Artists Company.

The veteran late actor is well known for his seminal television series such as: “Al Parari wal Hamool”, “Bent El Hetta”, “Ahlan YaGedoo Aziz”, “Borg El Haz”. Some of his plays were: “Al Abeet”, “Massa El Kheir ya Masr”, “Motreb El Awatef”, “Asl we soora”, “Mogrem Raghm Anfo”, “Al Tartoor”.

He got married to his classmate Quot Elqlop Abdelwahab in the 1960s, with whom he had the famous director Adel Awad and the comedian-actor, Alaa Awad.

Unfortunately, Awd died of cancer in 1997 at the age of 65.
