After a delay of about three months, the process of loading the first shipment of the Russian wheat deal for Egypt, amounting to 430,000 tons, has begun, in an important step to meet its needs for wheat used to support the bread of millions of citizens, according to what Reuters reported from informed sources.

The sources explained that about 17,650 tons of the first shipment, totaling 63,000 tons, were loaded at a grain processing plant in the port of Novorossiysk in Russia, a facility affiliated with the OZK Group that operates the port in cooperation with the Demetra Grain Holding Company, and the first shipment is expected to arrive in Egypt before the end of this year.

In the same context, the Egyptian Ministry of Supply announced last September that it had obtained wheat through direct purchase at a price of $235 per ton, which represents a shift from traditional practices for purchasing supplies.

The details of the supplier or payment terms were not disclosed, and some sources indicated that this deal is not related to the Egyptian Air Force’s Future Authority, which recently assumed responsibility for importing strategic goods for Egypt instead of the General Authority for Supply Commodities.

Egypt, one of the world's largest wheat importers, is seeking to take advantage of lower global prices to secure more wheat, which it uses to provide subsidized bread to tens of millions of its citizens.
