The Egyptian Finance Minister Mohamad Maait said that the ministry assigned EGP 3.8 billion to support the health sector in its battle against the coronavirus since the beginning of March.

Maait added in a statement on Wednesday that EGP 2.583 billion have been made available for the Ministry of Health, and EGP 427 million for its affiliated entities from public and central hospitals, as well as specialized medical centers and mental health hospitals.

The minister pointed out that EGP 688.5 million have been procured for university hospitals, and another EGP 50 million for Al-Azhar University hospitals, in a manner that helps these medical entities cope with the consequences of the deadly virus.

He explained that the electronic financial system has helped in implementing the availability and financial enhancements in the health sector in an instant manner, which contributed to the speed of payment of suppliers' dues and the provision of medicines and medical supplies, achieving the highest levels of health care and medical services for citizens.

Maait stressed that the Ministry is ready to immediately meet any financial reinforcements for the health sector from the EGP 100 billion that have been allocated according to the directives of the political leadership, to finance the state's comprehensive plan to counter the consequences of this virus.
