Facebook is expected to pay $650 million for 1.6 million users after violating a privacy policy, including a facial recognition lawsuit in Illinois.

A lawsuit was filed against Facebook in Cook County Courthouse in 2015, alleging that it used facial recognition tags for 1.6 million users, a violation to the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act.

The lawsuit alleged that Facebook's tag suggestion, which scans faces in users photos and make suggestions about the person's identity, stored vital data without users' approval.

In 2018, the case became a class action lawsuit, and a year later, Facebook performed facial recognition by only subscribing to the social media platform.
