EU Offers Condolences over Death of Field Marshal Tantawi

European Union (EU) Delegation to Egypt mourned on Tuesday the death of Egypt's Former Defense Minister Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi.

"With grave sadness, EUDEL Egypt has learned about the death of Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawy and expresses its deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the Egyptian government and people," the EU delegation tweeted.

"Tantawy served his country for decades in crucial roles throughout his career," it added.

Tantawi passed away, earlier today, Tuesday, at the age of 85.

It is worth mentioning that, Mohamed Hussein Tantawi was born on 31 October 1935. He is an Egyptian field marshal and former politician.

Tantawi served in the government as Minister of Defense and Military Production from 1991 until his retirement on 12 August 2012.
