On Saturday, the European Union called for the immediate lifting of the force majeure status on Libya’s oil fields and urged the protection of Central Bank employees and members of the State Council in the country. The appeal comes as concerns grow over the deteriorating situation in Libya, with the EU emphasizing the critical need to restore oil production and safeguard economic stability.

In a statement, the EU delegation and the diplomatic missions of EU member states in Libya expressed deep concern over the worsening conditions in the country. They stressed the importance of lifting the force majeure imposed on all Libyan oil fields, noting that the continued shutdown of these fields exacerbates the already fragile economic situation and threatens the economic lifeline of the Libyan people.

The EU missions highlighted that the closure of oil fields not only impacts Libya's economy but also endangers the livelihoods of its citizens. The prolonged disruption in oil production, a major source of revenue for Libya, is seen as a significant factor in the country's economic decline, contributing to inflation, unemployment, and a general decrease in the standard of living.

In addition to the call for reopening the oil fields, the EU also urged the protection of employees at the Central Bank of Libya. The diplomatic missions stressed that Central Bank staff should not be subjected to intimidation or threats, as any disruption to the bank's operations further destabilizes the country’s financial system. The closure of the bank and the disruption of banking services, the EU noted, are contributing to the worsening economic conditions and placing additional burdens on the Libyan population.

Regarding the State Council members, the EU missions underscored the importance of respecting the independence of the council's work and avoiding any attempts to threaten its members. The EU emphasized that fostering dialogue and cooperation among all parties is crucial for ensuring Libya's stability and advancing towards a comprehensive political solution.
