Emigration Min. Appeals to Women to Run for Next Parliament

The elections for the new Egyptian parliament will be conducted next October. The next parliament includes 156 seats for women out of 600 seats.

Minister of Emigration, Nabila Makram, appealed to women abroad to participate intensively in the coming elections. She urged women to run in the elections for this parliament, stressing that this period is the most brilliant era for women and this rich experience in which the political leadership values the role of women.

Makram emphasized that the Ministry of Emigration is an executive and not a legislative body.

Political life in Egypt

The ministry stands at one distance from all Egyptian candidates abroad in the House of Representatives elections, as it has no right to recommend or recommend candidates.

She indicated that political life in Egypt has many political forces and political parties, indicating democratic development and democratic life, and their role must be appreciated.

Makram indicated that the political leadership appreciates the role of Egyptians abroad in all development projects and their support for their country.

Nabila ppealed to women abroad to participatei in the elections

She said that despite the Corona pandemic, the openings did not stop, so it is imperative that Egyptians abroad come to participate in the electoral process and exercise this constitutional right.

The minister explained that there is continuous coordination between the ministry and the National Elections Authority, headed by Counselor Lachin Ibrahim, as the dates for the candidacy and participation of Egyptians abroad in the House of Representatives elections, to be held next October.

In the same context, she thanked Counselor Lachin Ibrahim, President of the National Elections Authority, and members of the esteemed Commission, for the effort they exert to carry out all electoral and constitutional entitlements.

She also thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the diplomatic missions for the efforts they exerted during all the elections, as it places a heavy burden on it during the polling process and receiving the envelopes that include the votes of Egyptians abroad.

Women in Parliament

The minister said that the participation of Egyptians abroad in the parliamentary elections is a continuation of the electoral entitlements guaranteed by the state to Egyptians at home and abroad, thanking the 2015 parliament and the eight members representing Egyptians abroad.

The minister appreciated the great effort that was made in cooperation between its deputies and the Ministry of Emigration, especially in the files of Egyptians abroad, revealing that the role of the Ministry of Emigration is to deliver to the Egyptians abroad what decided by the National Elections Authority with regard to the electoral and constitutional entitlements and the controls and procedures it sets.

The decision of the National Elections Authority:

The minister pointed out that today missions begin to receive nominations until September 26, according to the decision of the National Elections Authority, and whoever wishes to run must present to the mission a medical examination approved by hospitals accredited by embassies and consulates abroad, according to each country. The candidate must fulfill the conditions for candidacy.

The candidate must be an Egyptian citizen, enjoying his civil and political rights, be listed in the voter database in any of the governorates of the republic.

The candidate should not have had a reason to delete his name from the voter database, be at least 25 years old, and be a holder. Must have at least completed basic education, that he has performed military service or been exempt from it by law, and that his membership has not been revoked by a decision of the House of Representatives due to loss of confidence and esteem due to breach of membership duties.

With regard to dual nationality, the minister clarified that Law 140 of 2020 has allowed dual-national Egyptians to run for elections in the House of Representatives. As for the voters, Makram said that the National Elections Authority has set the dates for their participation.

Recording data begins as of September 27 until October 10 on the authority’s website, according to the commission’s decision. Elections will be carried out via express mail.

The minister stressed that data must be registered on the website of the National Elections Commission in order to be able to participate in the elections, announcing that as of today, Thursday, all procedures, departments and dates set by the National Elections Commission will be published on the official website of the Ministry in cooperation with the Elections Commission.

Voting process for the elections in the House of Representatives takes place in a manner befitting Egyptians abroad and Egypt.
