Egypt's Spokesperson of the Electricity Ministry, Ayman Hamza insisted on Tuesday that Egypt plays a vital role in the production, transmission, and distribution of energy sources, affirming that his country is capable of being a major electricity supplier.

Speaking to the TeN channel, Hamza said: " We have developed and enhanced interconnected grids as well as its existing infrastructure in accordance with the recommendations of the President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi."

"It is a must to improve the quality of high-voltage transmission lines across the country to open regional power trading and sale of surplus electricity," he added.

In the same connection, he affirmed that the country is trying to move quickly to become the center of the region’s power grid. "Nowadays, Egypt already has the capacity and the infrastructure to support the vision to become the regional hub.”

He referred also to the importance of the pact that was inked by the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) and the Saudi Electricity Company this year for the implementation of an electrical interconnection project between the two countries.

It's expected that the line between Egypt and Saudi Arabia will provide the possibility of selling energy to the Gulf countries in the future. Meanwhile, the surplus electricity will also be transferred from Egypt to Greece, and later to many European countries.
