Egypt’s El-Ahly SC are set to face Smouha FC on Monday in the Egyptian Premier League opener.
The two teams will meet on the venue of Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria at 5:30 CLT.
The Red Devils seek to secure first three points in their long journey to defend league title.
El-Ahly will enter the game few days after their Super Cup victory over arch-rivals Zamalek 3-2.
During the Super Cup match, El-Ahly scored the opening goal after Junior Ajaye made use of a corner gaining the upper hand for his club in the 20th minute. The Red Devils came back to enforce their lead in the 45th minute through a great inpidual effort by El-Shahat.
The second half was a bit crazy, as El-Ahly’s Ajaye came back to reinforce his club’s lead after Ramadan Sobhy penetrated through Zamalek’s defenses passing the ball to the Nigerian, who re-positioned himself to place the ball into his opposition’s net.
Zamalek then won 2 penalties in less than 10 minutes, the first being in the 64th minute. The second penalty came in the 75th minute, which was also scored by Alaa who placed it in the far left corner like the previous one.
El-Ahly newly-appointed manager René Weiler named a 24-man squad for Smouha’s clash.
The squad witnessed the return of Ayman Ashraf and Ramy Rabeaa after recovering for injuries, while Walid Azaro continued his absence due to injury.
