Ministers of Immigration Nabila Makram and Higher Education Dr. Khaled ABdel Ghaffar exchanged calls with officials abroad following the death of three Egyptian students who drowned in a Russian river.

The victims are: Ahmed Saber ElSayed (from Demiat governorate), Abdel Rahman Gmal Taha (from Minia governorate) and Cyrill Wilson William (from Suhag governorate).

Both ministers called the Egyptian Ambassador to Russia Ihab Nasr, who affirmed that the embassy is closely following the details and investigation of the accident with Russian officials and is working to finish the process of transferring the bodies back home.

Bodies’ arrival

Parents were contacted and notified by the accident and further notice of the bodies’ arrival would be sent on time.

Worth noting is that there is no manager of the educational mission to Russia, nor does a cultural attache exist in the formal Egyptian diplomatic mission since last November, a problem repeatedly reported by Egyptian students in Russia.

German Shooting Accidents

On the other hand, in Germany, Makram contacted Ambassador Badr Abdel Aty over reports that the Egyptian Dr. Mohamed Tawfik was shot in the city of Aachen.

Meanwhile, Dr. Tawfik  explained on his Facebook page that he was with his son, standing in front of  their home, when a gunman, most likely a sniper, shot him at his abdomen. The area was shortly closed by the police and he was sent to hospital. He assured that his health condition has improved and that he is now doing well.

Ambassador Abdel Aty affirmed that an Egyptian embassy staff contacted German officials over the incident and is closely following the investigations.

He noted that the German police arrested the shooter, a young man (18 years), and a number of weapons which were found at his house were confiscated.
