Egypt’s Non-oil Exports Spike to Register $7.4 Billion

Egypt's non-oil exports increased by 6% during the first quarter of 2021 to reach $ 7.438 billion, compared to about $ 6.99 billion during the same period in 2020.

Nevin Gamea, Minister of Trade and Industry said that the increase came despite the current circumstances related to the coronavirus crisis that the whole world suffers from thanks to the efforts made by the government to support the productive and export sectors during the crisis, which contributed to the continued rotation of the wheel of production and the preservation of export markets.

Ismail Gaber chairman of General Organization of Import and Export Control (GOEIC) explained that there are 5 countries whose markets have acquired 30.6% of total Egyptian exports, headed by Turkey with a value of $ 504 million, followed by the United States of America with a value of $ 498 million.

The value of Egyptian exports to Saudi Arabia amounted to about $ 456 million during Q1 of 2021, to Italy about $ 447 million, and to Malta about $ 375 million.

Gaber mentioned that the largest sectors dominating the Egyptian exports list during the first quarter of this year included the chemical products and fertilizers sector with a value of $ 1.53 billion, followed by the building materials sector with a value of $ 1.353 billion.

The value of exports of the food industries sector was about $965 million during the Q1 of 2021, the engineering and electronic goods sector was about $739 million, the ready-made clothes sector about $434 million dollars, and the medical industries sector about $174 million.
