Egypt's Non-oil Exports Reach Historic Level to $32 Billion

Minister of Trade and Industry Nevin Gamea said that Egypt's non-oil exports amounted to $32,128 billion for the first time in 2021, compared to $25,427 billion, year-on-year, achieving a significant increase of 26%.

Gamea explained on Wednesday that the unprecedented positive indicators achieved by Egyptian commodity exports last year were due to the increase in global demand for Egyptian products in various productive sectors and the great efforts made by the government to support all productive and export sectors during the pandemic, which contributed to maintaining export markets and access to new markets.

The minister added that the state implemented a number of measures, including restructuring the Supreme Council for Export and restructuring export councils, in addition to working to achieve maximum benefit from commercial offices abroad, and free trade agreements and global economic blocs.

Geographical distribution of Egyptian exports

She pointed out that the geographical distribution of Egyptian exports during 2021 included the European Union at a value of $9,153 billion, compared to $5,881 billion during the year 2020, with an increase of 56%.

The United States with a value of $2,446 billion, compared to $1,618 billion, an increase of 51%, and other markets with a value of $9,128 billion, compared to $6,978 billion during the year 2020, with an increase of 31%, and Africa without the Arab countries with a value of $1,853 million compared to $1,445 million in 2020, an increase of 28%.

Export sectors achieved a significant increase

She noted that 13 export sectors achieved a significant increase in their exports during 2021, including leather products sector with a value of $86 million, compared to $53 million in 2020, an increase of 64%, and printing, packaging, paper, books and technical works sector with a value of $977 million, compared to $642 million during 2020, an increase of 52%, and the engineering and electronic goods sector with a value of $3,387 billion compared to $2,315 billion during 2020, with an increase of 46%.

Moreover, chemical products and fertilizers sector recorded a value of $6,702 billion, compared to $4,614 billion during the year 2020, an increase of 45%, and the ready-made garments sector with a value of $2,27 billion, compared to $1,457 million during 2020, an increase of 39%.

Largest recipients of Egyptian exports

The report indicated that the largest recipients of Egyptian exports during 2021 included the United States with a value of $2,446 billion, Saudi Arabia with a value of $1.995 billion, Italy with a value of $1.852 billion, the United Arab Emirates with a value of $1.196 billion and Malta with a value of $1.159 billion, Spain with $1,156 billion, Britain and Northern Ireland with the value of about $1,79 billion, Libya with $938 million, and Canada with $823 million.
