Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdel Ati, inaugurated the voting process for the Egyptian Senate elections at the Embassy of Egypt in Washington on Friday morning, becoming the first voter to cast his ballot on the opening day of overseas voting.

The voting for Egyptians abroad is scheduled to take place over two days, August 1 and 2, 2025, across Egyptian embassies and consulates worldwide.

Following his vote, Abdel Ati emphasized that participation in constitutional entitlements is a “national duty,” underscoring the government’s strong commitment to encouraging Egyptians abroad to take part in the democratic process. “Egyptians living overseas are an integral part of the national fabric and key partners in shaping the country’s future,” he stated.

The minister praised the close coordination between the National Election Authority and Egypt’s diplomatic and consular missions abroad, noting the extensive preparations made to ensure a smooth, transparent, and well-organized voting process. He affirmed that all Egyptian missions are fully prepared to welcome voters during the designated days and to provide all necessary support to facilitate their participation.

Abdel Ati also urged Egyptian expatriates to exercise their constitutional right and select the candidates they believe best represent them, reiterating that embassies and consulates around the world are ready to receive voters.

The Senate elections mark a key moment in Egypt’s political calendar, providing citizens both at home and abroad the opportunity to influence the composition of the country’s upper house of parliament.
