Ahmed Seif El-Nasr, the head of the Egyptian Commercial Services Office (ECS) in Uganda said on Wednesday that annual Egyptian exports to Uganda rose to $100 million, compared to $60 million three to four years earlier.

El-Nasr said, in a hypothetical conference held by the Food Export Council that Egypt's imports from Uganda are estimated at $7 million, which includes raw materials, tea, coffee and fish, as well as some fruits such as pineapples and avocados.

However, there is a tendency from the Ugandan government to reduce imports, deepen local manufacturing and attract foreign investment, in light of a trade deficit of about $4 billion, noting that the repercussions of the Coronavirus have supported this trend.

He advised changing the business model with Uganda to be based on mutual benefits and not only exports, as Kampala aims to limit imports, encourage local manufacturing and attract foreign investment, amid plans to support financial control.
