Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan has settled on his expected starting line-up for the Pharaohs’ Round of 16 clash against Argentina at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Egypt reached the last 16 after eliminating Australia 4-2 on penalties, following a 1-1 draw after regular and extra time.
Argentina also booked their place in the Round of 16 after a dramatic 3-2 victory over Cape Verde, with the match going to extra time before the defending champions secured qualification through a late goal.
Hossam Hassan is expected to bring Mohanad Lasheen back into Egypt’s midfield against Argentina, while Hamdi Fathi is set to return to the defensive line.
The Egypt coach has not yet made a final decision on who will partner Hamdi Fathi in central defence, with Rami Rabia and Yasser Ibrahim both under consideration.
According to the expected line-up, Mostafa Shobeir will start in goal, behind a back line consisting of Karim Hafez, Yasser Ibrahim, Hamdi Fathi and Mohamed Hany.
In midfield, Egypt are expected to rely on Emam Ashour, Mohanad Lasheen and Marwan Attia, while the attacking line is set to feature Mostafa Ziko, Mohamed Salah and Haitham Hassan.

The match between Egypt and Argentina is scheduled to kick off at 7pm today, Tuesday, 7 July, at Atlanta Stadium in Georgia.
The game will be the penultimate fixture of the Round of 16 at the World Cup.
