Egypt’s Deputy Minister of Health and Population Mohamed El-Tayeb conducted on Wednesday an inspection visit to the Rafah crossing in North Sinai to assess the readiness of emergency medical services and healthcare teams.

Accompanied by Assem Saadoun, Deputy Governor of North Sinai, the visit aimed to ensure that medical teams, supplies, and emergency response units are fully prepared to provide round-the-clock urgent care.

During the tour, the deputy minister inspected quarantine units, checked the stock and safety of vaccines and antitoxins, and reviewed the functionality of emergency medical equipment.

He also examined emergency drug inventories, fire safety systems, and first aid infrastructure, while ensuring that medical convoys stationed at the crossing were fully staffed and technically ready across all specialties.

El-Tayeb praised the coordination between the Ministry’s departments and local authorities, emphasizing the government’s commitment to securing the border medically and supporting frontline health workers in their humanitarian response efforts.

Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, spokesperson for the Ministry stated that the visit followed directives from Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Egypt’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health to elevate preparedness at border crossings and healthcare facilities in the region.

“Medical teams are on full alert and ready to provide immediate care as soon as the border opens,” the Ministry said in a statement.
