Egypt's Agricultural Exports Spike Despite Pandemic

The Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation announced that the volume of Egyptian agricultural exports has increased to more than 4.3 million tons during this year, despite the corona crisis and the confusion of global transportation.

El-Sayed Al-Qusayr, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, had received a report on Friday from Ahmed Al-Attar, Head of the Central Department of Agricultural Quarantine confirming that the total exports during the period from January 1- October 5 amounted to 4,344,500 million tons of agricultural products.

The most important agricultural exports for this period included citrus fruits, potatoes, onions, grapes, pomegranates, garlic, mango, strawberries, beans, guava, cucumbers, peppers and eggplant.

Al-Qusayr said that agricultural exports of citrus fruits amounted to 1,397,945 tons, in addition to the export of 677,921 tons of potatoes, to occupy the second spot in agricultural exports.

Onion came in the 3rd spot with 333,2 tons exported in 2020. Grapes occupied the 4th spot with a total of 138,566 tons, while the pomegranate ranked fifth with a total of 48,627 tons.

He added that Egypt's garlic exports ranked sixth with a total amount of 34,366 tons, while Egypt's mango exports ranked seventh with a total of 29,266 tons, followed by strawberries in eighth place with a total of 20,761 tons, while beans ranked ninth with a total amount of 16,360 tons.

Guava stood at the tenth spot in agricultural exports with a total of 5,434 tons, the cucumber ranked eleventh with a total of 3,314 tons, while pepper came to the twelfth place with a total of 2,720 tons, and eggplant stood at the end of the list with a total of 1,214 tons.
