Egyptians living abroad have officially begun casting their ballots in the 2025 Senate election runoff, with the first polling station opening in Wellington, New Zealand due to the time difference. Voting started there at midnight Cairo time on Monday, setting in motion two full days of overseas polling. The process will conclude in Los Angeles, United States, the final station to close its doors at the end of the global voting marathon.

The Egyptian Embassy in New Zealand opened at 9:00 AM local time to receive voters, and embassies and consulates across the world followed suit, having completed all preparations to welcome Egyptian expatriates. According to the National Election Authority, polling will run from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM local time in each host country.

Overseas voting is taking place in 136 embassies and consulates across 117 countries, following guidelines set by the authority’s Decision No. 27 of 2023, which established the official polling centers and their locations.

Judge Hazem Badawi, head of the National Election Authority, confirmed that the domestic runoff involves five Egyptian governorates, where 10 candidates are competing for seats in the Senate.
