In celebration of International Museum Day, all antiquities museums across Egypt affiliated with the Supreme Council of Antiquities are open for free to Egyptian visitors on May 18th.
In his remarks, Mohamed Ismail Khaled, the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, said that this initiative is part of the museum sector's strategy to participate in local and international heritage and cultural events.
He added: "It also aims to raise awareness about archaeology, culture, and tourism among all visitors and attract people from different age groups and social backgrounds. On this day, visitors can join guided tours for free to learn about the unique archaeological collections in each museum."
International Museum Day is an annual event organized by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) since 1977. Its purpose is to unify the aspirations and creative efforts of museums worldwide and educate the public about their activities through events and seminars that highlight their role in society.
Each year, a theme is chosen for International Museum Day, and this year's theme is "Museums for Education and Research." It emphasizes the importance of museums in providing a comprehensive educational experience.
