Egypt has welcomed the United Nations General Assembly’s renewal of the mandate of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) for three years.
This decision, supported by 151 member states, reflects the international community’s commitment to the Palestinian refugee cause and to ensuring their right to live in dignity until a just and lasting resolution to their cause is reached.
Egypt affirmed its full support for UNRWA and its vital humanitarian mission, stressing that the Agency’s role remains central and irreplaceable as the primary provider of essential services to millions of Palestinian refugees.
Egypt underscored that UNRWA's existence is intrinsically linked to the essence of the refugee issue itself.
It also pointed to the international community’s responsibility to reach a lasting solution to it in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions.
Egypt called on the international community to build on this momentum and enhance efforts to provide sustainable funding to ensure the continuation of the agency's indispensable services, which contribute to preserving the rights of Palestinian refugees and enhancing the chances of achieving a just and comprehensive peace in the region.
