An Egyptian mission from the Supreme Council of Antiquities discovered a large statue at Tell el-Faraeen in Sharqia, believed to depict Ramesses II.
The statue, missing its lower part, weighs about 5 to 6 tons and stands around 2.2 meters tall. Remaining features suggest it was part of a triad statue group.
Officials said initial studies indicate the statue was moved in ancient times from Per-Ramesses to the site, known historically as Imat, for reuse within a temple complex.
The statue has been transferred to a storage facility in San Al-Hagar for restoration.
