Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly reviewed on Sunday a report from Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat on the global Ookla Speedtest index for measuring internet speeds for the January.

Talaat indicated that the index revealed that Egypt topped the African continent in the average fixed internet speeds, after it ranked 40th out of 43 countries, with average speeds of 35.67 Mb/s according to the new median method, recently adopted by Ookla.

He added that this achievement comes in light of the continuous policies pursued by the ministry to improve internet speed in Egypt, as well as Telecom Egypt's plans to develop and improve service and raise the level of customer satisfaction.

He pointed out that Telecom Egypt in recent years has implemented an integrated action plan to develop the infrastructure in all governorates, by developing and expanding the international network, the main network, messaging networks, as well as the backbone network, and aggressively expanding the deployment of MSAN smart collection units based on optical fiber cables. This is in parallel with raising the efficiency of the terrestrial network for all customers.
