Ministry of Trade and Industry is devoted to make Egypt a regional center for manufacturing and exporting ceramics.

Egyptian ceramics are defined by special style, colors and different sizes, and are widely exported to European and middle eastern markets, adding that the percent of the component in the industry are 90 percent local.

However, the price of gas for the industry, amounts for $7 per million thermal units, which reduces the competitiveness  of the Egyptian product on the international scene.

Currently there are around 33 main ceramic firms operating in Egypt with an investment exceeding EGP 15 billion, and a productions of around 240 million square meters, which could be doubled if the price of gas is to be subsidized.
