Egypt to Amend Taxes on Real Estate, Entertainment and Stamp Duty

Mohamed Maait, the Egyptian Minister of Finance confirmed that the ministry’s legislative agenda in the coming period will include a number of amendments on real estate, entertainment, and stamp duty.

Maait added, during the parliament's the budget committee meeting on Sunday that the ministry is currently working to finalize the executive regulations for the unified tax procedures law, as well as the executive regulations for the customs law, in addition to the state's general budget law.

He reviewed the upcoming steps regarding restructuring and governance, pointing out that the ministry seeks to include the Egyptian trade on a single electronic platform, which would facilitate procedures and eliminate the phenomenon of importing goods without registering its source.

He stressed that the ministry aims in the next phase to maintain financial stability and improve revenues through the provisions of the tax and customs systems, indicating that e-collection of dues proved good results.

On his part, Yasser Omar, Undersecretary of the Committee praised the automation of services in the Ministry of Finance, indicating that it saved millions of wasted capital, stressing the need to release the incentive payments of teachers for a second and third primary, which was previously approved by the Council in the state budget.

In turn, MP Mustafa Salem, the commission’s undersecretary called for amending the pension law to provide an appropriate amount for the employee after retirement, criticizing the value of the pension compared to employees’ salaries.
