Egypt’s National Telecom Regulatory Authority has approved price adjustments for telecom services while directing operators to introduce more affordable packages for internet and mobile users.

The move includes a new entry-level home internet plan priced at EGP 150, down from the current minimum of around EGP 210.

A low-cost mobile bundle has also been introduced at EGP 5, compared to the previous starting price of about EGP 13, in an effort to expand access and support digital inclusion.

At the same time, the regulator confirmed that government and educational websites will remain accessible free of charge on both fixed and mobile networks, even after users exhaust their data allowances.

The decision comes as part of a broader pricing revision, with some telecom services set to increase by between 9% and 15%. Voice call rates, recharge cards, and mobile wallet services will not be affected.

Officials said the changes are driven by rising operational costs, including currency fluctuations, higher electricity and fuel prices, and increased expenses related to network expansion and maintenance.

Additional pressure has come from global supply chain disruptions and higher costs for telecom equipment and electronic components.

The regulator noted that internet usage has surged significantly, with fixed broadband demand rising by 36% over the past year, adding strain on network capacity.

Authorities say the updated pricing framework will help telecom companies boost investment in infrastructure, improve service quality, and expand network coverage, while maintaining oversight to protect consumers and ensure service standards are met.
