Egypt Succeeds In Registering The Eighth Element On The UNESCO “Intangible Cultural Heritage Lists” In cooperation with 10 Arab Countries

Minister of Culture: Registering “Engraving on Metals” as a joint Arab file sends a message that heritage is a key of understanding between nations in a world troubled by many conflicts.

The Egyptian Ministry of Culture, in cooperation with 10 other Arab countries, succeeded in registering “the arts and skills ,associated with engraving on metals... copper, silver, and gold,” on the representative lists of intangible cultural heritage of the UNESCO. It is worthy noting that Egyptian registered 8 elements on the “list of intangible cultural heritage” of the UNESCO.

on Tuesday, in the eighteenth session of the organization’s Intergovernmental Committee, held in the “Republic of Botswana.”

Dr. Nevin Al-Kilani, Minister of Culture, said: “This achievement is the result of a joint efforts of eleven Arab countries: Egypt - Saudi Arabia - Algeria - Morocco - Iraq - Palestine - Sudan - Saudi Arabia - Tunisia - Yemen – Mauritania. These countries worked together during two years, with coordination of the Arab Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO). The nomination file highlights the cultural diversity of the intangible cultural heritage in our Arab region, which was transmitted and preserved the previous generation through thousands of years.

The Minister of Culture congratulated all Egyptians on registering the eighth element on the UNESCO Representative List of intangible cultural heritage. She also thanked those in charge of the Egyptian Heritage House, headed by Dr. Nahla Imam, for their persistent effort to register the eighth element.

During the meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Intangible Heritage, The Minister of Culture stressed that this joint file sends a message of mutual respect and peace between peoples, adding that the intangible cultural heritage is a key of understanding between nations in a world troubled by many conflicts.

During the meeting of the International Committee of UNESCO, Egypt also sent a special greeting to metal engraving stakeholders: artists, designers, creators and craftsmen. The Egyptian metal engraving today it is an evidence of the continuity and sustainability of the Egyptian heritage.
