Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister witnessed on Tuesday the signing ceremony of a contract with the initials for the management and operation of the first line of the high-speed electric train network “Ain Sokhna – Alexandria – El Alamein – Matrouh” with the alliance of “Deutsche Bahn” German companies and “El Sewedy Electric” for a period of 15 years, renewable for another 15 years.

The contract was signed by Major General Sherif Hassan Leil, President of the National Tunnels Authority, Nico Warbanov, President of Deutsche Bahn for international operations, and Ahmed El Sewedy, Chairman of the Board of Directors of El Sewedy Electric.

After the signing, the Prime Minister said that signing the contract during Egypt's hosting of the COP27 Climate Summit in Sharm El-Sheikh is an embodiment of the comprehensive plan directed by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to expand the establishment of green, sustainable, clean and environment-friendly transport networks, and to enhance cooperation with the private sector.

The Minister of Transport Kamel El Wazir said that the German company is one of the world's leading companies in the field of railway operation and maintenance, as it operates all German railways, with a total length of 35,000 km, and operates a large number of railways in some countries of the world.

It is the largest in the field of railway management and operation companies in Europe and among the similar large companies in the world, followed by more than 500 subsidiaries in the fields of railways, freight transport and infrastructure management related to electric trains.

Al-Wazir pointed out that the German company will be used to operate the network with its three lines to reduce the problems of interference between more than one operator through a new management and operation model in exchange for obtaining a percentage of the revenue, and it was emphasized that the percentage of Egyptian workers should not be less than 90% of the total number The company's employees to transfer expertise to all Egyptian workers.

He added that the political leadership directed to focus on the rehabilitation aspect of technical human cadres, through the transfer of the German work culture, which is characterized by accuracy, high discipline and quality of production, with the aim of formulating and refining the personality of the Egyptian technical human cadres.

The minister added that in the context of Egypt considering the issue of climate change as one of its most important priorities and an integral part of the plan it set to achieve the goals of sustainable development and its vision 2030, the Egyptian experience of implementing a green, smart, environmentally friendly mass transit system that meets the standards of environmental protection and the reduction of all pollutants resulting from combustion fuel.

In addition to applying the highest global technology through operating using clean electric energy and expanding its use in mass transportation, which makes it a pioneer at the continental and international levels in the field of electric traction rail transport.

The head of the German company “Deutsche Bahn” expressed his honor and happiness in managing and operating the high-speed electric train system that is being implemented in Egypt with its three lines, explaining that the German company will also rehabilitate and train Egyptian engineers and technicians, praising the size of the developmental achievements witnessed by the Egyptian state in recent years.

Niko Warbanov added that by operating the new system, they will contribute significantly to the paradigm transformation of railways through which they will actively work to protect the climate and support economic development in Egypt.” He said: We help provide modern transportation for millions of people in Egypt and ensure the transportation of climate-friendly goods by rail.

It was pointed out that in accordance with the directives of the political leadership to expand the establishment of these projects, the National Authority for Tunnels is currently implementing a network of high-speed electric train lines with a length of about 2000 km (passengers & goods).

The first line is a new link between the Red and Mediterranean Bahrain, as it extends from Ain Sukhna on the Red Sea coast, which is considered one of the most important logistic ports of the Republic, to Marsa Matrouh on the Mediterranean coast, passing through the new administrative capital and the new city of Alexandria and Al Alamein, with a length of 660 km, which is being implemented by a number of companies Egyptian contracting for the implementation of civil works in cooperation with the German company Siemens for the implementation of electromechanical works and mobile units.

The second line extends for a length of 1100 km from Fayoum, passing through all the governorates of Upper Egypt and ending with the city of Abu Simbel in the far south. It is achieved by implementing the network concept to exchange service with the first line in Fayoum / Beni Suef and with the third line at Qena station, which extends for a length of 225 km from Qena to Safaga through the city Hurghada.
