The Egyptian Professional Clubs Association has decided that the 2026-27 Egyptian Premier League season will begin on either Aug. 20 or 21, with 20 clubs taking part in the competition.

The association will hold a public draw attended by representatives of all participating clubs before announcing the full league schedule.

Under the new competition format, all teams will compete in the first phase of the league. In the second phase, clubs will be divided into two groups: a championship group featuring the top six teams, and a second group consisting of 14 teams, from which four clubs will be relegated to the second-tier Professional League.

The Egyptian Premier League is expected to be suspended on Sept. 20 to allow time for the national team’s training camp, as part of preparations following Egypt’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Egypt’s national team exited the World Cup in the round of 16 after a 3-2 defeat to Argentina in a match played at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, United States.
