Egypt-Russia Trade Exchange Records $5.1 Billion: CAPMAS

The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) expected the volume of trade exchange between Egypt and Russia to increase by about 14% to a value of $5.1 billion, during the first 11 months of 2023, compared to $4.5 billion in the same period in 2022.

The report added that the value of Egyptian exports to Russia was $469 million during the first 11 months of 2023, compared to $543 million, year-on-year, a decrease of 13.7%.

On the other hand, the volume of Egyptian imports from Russia reached $4.6 billion during the first 11 months of 2023, compared to $3.9 billion, year-on-year, an increase of 17.5%.

The most prominent commodities that Egypt exported to Russia included vegetables and fruits worth $380.3 million, plastics worth $20.3 million, grains and oily fruits worth $10.3 million, machinery and electrical appliances worth $8.4 million, and dairy products worth $7.4 million.

While the most important commodity groups that Egypt imported from Russia were grains worth $2.5 billion, grease and vegetable oils worth $475.2 million, and iron and steel worth $555 million.

The report added that these commodities also included fuel and mineral oils worth $350.2 million, and timber worth $276.7 million.

Moreover, the value of Russian investments in Egypt recorded $141.2 million during the fiscal year 2022/23, compared to $64.9 million during the year 2021/22, an increase of 117.6%.

The value of remittances from Egyptians working in Russia amounted to $16.4 million during FY2021/22, compared to $12.4 million during FY2020/21, an increase of 32.3%.

The value of remittances from Russians working in Egypt amounted to $23.7 million during the FY2021/22, compared to $29.5 million during FY2020/21, a decrease of 19.6%.

The population of Egypt recorded 105.9 million people in 2023, while the population of Russia recorded 144.7 million people in 2023.

The number of Egyptians present in Russia, according to the mission’s estimates, reached 40,000 Egyptians by the end of 2022.

This report comes as President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, witnessed, via video conference, the concrete pouring activities for the base of Electricity Unit No. 4 at the Dabaa nuclear station.
