Egypt’s National Council for Wages, chaired by Minister of Planning and Economic Development Rania Al-Mashat, has announced an increase in the minimum wage for private sector workers from 6,000 EGP to 7,000 EGP. The new wage policy will take effect on March 1, 2025.

In addition to the wage increase, the council set the minimum annual salary increment for private sector employees at 250 EGP per month. For the first time, the council also established a minimum wage for part-time workers, ensuring their hourly rate does not fall below 28 EGP, in accordance with the definition provided in labor laws.

Al-Mashat emphasized that the decision aligns with ongoing economic developments and aims to strengthen economic and social stability. She noted that this policy follows international labor standards, as the International Labour Organization (ILO) recommends periodic reviews of minimum wages to protect households' purchasing power and accommodate economic shifts.
