Egypt-Qatar Trade Exchange Hit $128.4 Million: CAPMAS

The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) confirmed that the value of trade exchange between Egypt and Qatar reached $128.4 million in 2024, compared to $72.1 million in 2023.

In a statement Sunday, the agency said that the value of Egyptian exports to Qatar reached $93.4 million in 2024, compared to $44.3 million in 2023. Meanwhile, the value of Egyptian imports from Qatar reached $35 million in 2024, compared to $27.8 million in 2023.

Regarding the most important commodity groups exported by Egypt to Qatar in 2024, the agency explained that the value of exports of vegetables and fruits reached $38 million, machinery and electrical appliances $8 million, vegetable and fruit preparations $6 million, cocoa and its preparations $6 million, and various food preparations $4 million.

The most important commodity groups Egypt imported from Qatar in 2024 were plastics and related products worth $14 million, various chemical products worth $7 million, fuels and mineral oils worth $5 million, aluminum worth $4 million, and inorganic chemical products worth $3 million. 

The value of Qatari investments in Egypt amounted to $618.5 million during the fiscal year 2023/24, compared to $548.2 million during the fiscal year 2022/23. Meanwhile, the value of Egyptian investments in Qatar amounted to $171.5 million during the fiscal year 2023/24, compared to $86.8 million during the fiscal year 2022/23.

The value of remittances from Egyptians working in Qatar amounted to $819.5 million during the fiscal year 2023/24, compared to $940.6 million during the fiscal year 2022/23. Meanwhile, the value of remittances from Qataris working in Egypt amounted to $1.2 million during the fiscal year 2023/24, compared to $1.9 million during the fiscal year 2022/23.

The agency stated that Egypt's population reached 107.5 million in April 2024, while Qatar's population reached 3.1 million during the same period. According to the mission's estimates, the number of Egyptians residing in Qatar reached 165,000 by the end of 2023.
