Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelaty held a phone call with Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, to discuss the ongoing crises in Gaza and Lebanon.

The conversation, part of regular coordination between the two countries, focused on the deteriorating humanitarian and security situations in the region.

The two leaders addressed joint efforts to halt the ongoing hostilities in Gaza and facilitate the release of hostages.

They emphasized the importance of ensuring the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid to the besieged region. Additionally, they discussed Egypt’s continued efforts to foster Palestinian reconciliation, with recent talks hosted in Cairo between the Fatah and Hamas movements.

Both ministers underscored the need to prioritize Palestinian national interests during this critical and dangerous phase for the Palestinian cause.

Turning to Lebanon, Abdel Aty and Sheikh Mohammed expressed deep concern over the escalating Israeli military aggression.

They highlighted the urgent need for a ceasefire and reinforced the importance of supporting Lebanon’s state institutions, particularly the Lebanese Army.

The ministers called for the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which mandates the deployment of the Lebanese Army in southern Lebanon and a halt to hostilities in the region.

The discussion also touched on Lebanon’s political situation, with both ministers emphasizing the necessity for Lebanese leaders to elect a president and complete the formation of state institutions. They reaffirmed their support for Lebanese sovereignty and unity, stressing that the election of a president must be a domestic, Lebanese-owned process.
