The Egyptian Railway Authority has announced the operation of the tenth special train as part of the voluntary return initiative for Sudanese nationals, reflecting Egypt’s ongoing commitment to supporting its southern neighbors during a time of humanitarian need.

The initiative comes under direct instructions from Vice Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, Engineer Kamel El-Wazir, and forms part of broader national efforts to facilitate safe and dignified repatriation for displaced Sudanese families.

The train, numbered 1940, departed Cairo’s main railway station on Sunday morning, heading to Aswan with hundreds of Sudanese passengers on board. The journey was marked by meticulous organization and logistical coordination, reinforcing the historic and fraternal ties between the Egyptian and Sudanese peoples.

The Railway Authority confirmed it had provided all necessary services to ensure a comfortable journey for passengers. These included reception assistance at stations, dedicated support for elderly travelers, a carriage allocated for personal belongings and luggage, and a secure, well-equipped train environment to maintain comfort throughout the trip.

Many Sudanese passengers expressed heartfelt appreciation for the care and support they received from Egyptian authorities, describing the experience as smooth and deeply respectful. Several passengers noted that the solidarity shown by Egypt during this period would leave a lasting emotional impression and would be remembered as a gesture of genuine fraternity.

The authority highlighted that the voluntary return initiative has witnessed a notable increase in demand in recent weeks, prompting coordination with Sudanese counterparts to arrange additional trips in the coming period. As of today, a total of 9,548 Sudanese nationals have been transported through the initiative over ten train journeys, averaging approximately 940 passengers per trip.

The current train is scheduled to arrive at Aswan’s High Dam Station at approximately 11:10 p.m. Sunday night, after which passengers will be assisted by relevant authorities to continue their journey toward Sudan.

The same train is set to return to regular public service on Monday evening under the number 1945. It will depart Aswan at 8:30 p.m. and arrive in Cairo at 9:25 a.m. the following day, operating as a third-class air-conditioned service.
