The mascot's model of 27th Handball World Cup 2021 was broken into pieces, while it was inside a warehouse in 6th of October City, Egyptian reports said on Friday.

Security services in Giza Governorate are carrying out investigations, to uncover those accused of destroying the mascot.

The prosecution asked for checking the surveillance cameras and the intensification of investigations.

Specialists have constructed a model for the mascot as a way of promoting the World Handball Championship, that Egypt is hosting from January 13 to 31, to attract the attention of all countries in light of the participation of 32 teams for the first time in the history of the tournament.

On the other hand, the medical Committee of the IHF Men’s Handball World Championship said on Friday that every team in the tournament will undergo PCR tests every 24 hours.

Khaled Megahed, the Spokesman of the medical committee, said that the PCR tests will be made for everyone  in the tournament, upon the health minister and Sports minister directives.

These decisions came as the state is keen on adhering to the precautionary measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
