Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk on Wednesday inaugurated the Egyptian pavilion at Fruit Logistica 2026 in Berlin, the world’s largest international trade fair for fresh produce and global food supply chains.
The opening ceremony was attended by a high-level delegation, including Ambassador Mohamed El-Badry, Egypt’s Ambassador to Germany; Tarek El-Houbi, Chairman of the National Food Safety Authority and Head of the Egyptian Commercial Representation Office in Berlin.
Speaking during the event, Farouk said Egypt’s participation reflects directives from the political leadership to strengthen agricultural exports and enhance their global competitiveness, stressing that food security and market expansion remain top national priorities.
He emphasized Egypt’s commitment to applying the highest international standards of quality and food safety, reinforcing global confidence in Egyptian agricultural products and strengthening the country’s export brand.
During his tour of the pavilion, the minister revealed that Egypt’s agricultural exports reached record levels in 2025, with export volumes totaling approximately 9.5 million tonnes, while the value of fresh and processed agricultural exports reached around $11.5 billion.
Farouk highlighted the strong international reputation of Egyptian produce, particularly oranges and potatoes, which continues to enable Egypt to compete effectively in European markets. He stressed that all export shipments undergo rigorous inspection to ensure full compliance with phytosanitary and global quality standards.
The minister praised the wide participation of 99 Egyptian companies, representing some of the country’s largest producers and exporters of fruits, vegetables, and dates. He noted that the government is actively working to remove procedural and logistical obstacles facing exporters, while simultaneously opening new non-traditional markets.
Among recent achievements, Farouk cited the opening of the Vietnamese market to Egyptian onions and garlic, as well as the Dominican Republic market to citrus fruits and pomegranates.
Farouk said Fruit Logistica provides a global platform not only for marketing, but also for exploring cutting-edge innovations in agriculture, particularly the use of artificial intelligence in supply chain management and modern farming technologies that reduce waste and improve water efficiency.
He expressed optimism about achieving higher export growth in 2026, with a stronger focus on agro-processing to increase value-added production rather than exporting raw commodities, supporting economic growth and job creation.
