Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held a phone call with Cypriot Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos on Monday to discuss strengthening bilateral ties and review the latest regional developments.
The talks came as part of ongoing coordination between Egypt and Cyprus, amid growing regional tensions and diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing escalation in the Middle East.
Both ministers praised the depth of historical relations between the two countries, which were elevated to the level of a strategic partnership last April during President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s visit to Cyprus.
Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s interest in maintaining close coordination with Cyprus at all levels, particularly as Nicosia currently holds the presidency of the Council of the European Union. He also commended Cyprus for its support for Egypt within European institutions.
The Egyptian foreign minister stressed the importance of expanding economic and trade cooperation and accelerating the implementation of a memorandum of understanding related to the employment of Egyptian workers in Cyprus.
Energy cooperation also featured prominently in the discussions, with Abdelatty highlighting the strategic importance of transporting gas and energy supplies from Egypt to Europe. He underlined the need to connect Cypriot gas fields with Egyptian infrastructure as part of broader regional energy integration efforts.
The two ministers also exchanged views on regional developments, including efforts to de-escalate tensions and the latest developments in negotiations between the United States and Iran.
Abdelatty briefed his Cypriot counterpart on Egypt’s ongoing diplomatic efforts, coordinated with regional partners, to contain tensions and support diplomatic solutions aimed at preventing the region from sliding into a new phase of instability.
For his part, Kombos praised Egypt’s role in promoting calm and reducing escalation across the region. Both ministers agreed to continue coordination within the framework of the strategic partnership between the two countries and support all efforts aimed at maintaining regional stability.
