Antonio Conte has officially announced his departure from SSC Napoli following the end of the season.

Napoli finished the campaign in second place in Serie A, securing qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League.

Speaking to Italian outlet Toto Mercato, Conte revealed that he had informed club president Aurelio De Laurentiis about his decision a month ago.

“About a month ago, I called the president and I didn’t ask him for anything, nor did he ask me for anything,” Conte said. “I told him that I felt our project had reached its end and that there was no room to change the plans.”

The former Italy and Chelsea coach admitted he was unable to create the atmosphere he had hoped for at the club. “I failed in one thing at Napoli. I could not create self-sufficiency within the environment, and that makes it difficult to compete with others,” he added.

Conte also spoke about the tensions surrounding the club during his spell in Naples. “There have been many controversies, but Napoli needs serious people. Some individuals are harmful and should be kept away. I take full responsibility because I realized things could not be changed.”

He concluded by thanking the club and supporters for their understanding. “It was an honor for me. I thank the president and the fans who understood my position.”

Conte has been heavily linked with the Italy national football team job following the departure of Gennaro Gattuso after Italy failed to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

During his two seasons with Napoli, Conte guided the club to the Serie A title in 2025.
