Mahmoud Esmat, Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, attended the ceremony marking the transport of the Reactor Pressure Vessel (RPV) for the first nuclear unit from the port of St. Petersburg to the El-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant site.
The ceremony took place on the sidelines of his participation in the High-Level Nuclear Summit and the World Nuclear Week events in Moscow, Russia.
The event was attended by Dr. Sherif Helmy, Chairman of the Nuclear Power Plants Authority, and Dr. Ahmed Farghal, Head of the Executive Body for Nuclear Projects Supervision.
On the Russian side, participants included Alexey Likhachev, Director General of Russia’s State Atomic Energy Corporation “Rosatom,” Dr. Andrei Petrov, First Deputy Director General of Rosatom and Chairman of Atomstroyexport—the company implementing the El-Dabaa project—along with several officials in charge of the nuclear file and the peaceful uses of nuclear energy in Egypt and Russia.
The RPV is one of the most critical and largest components of a nuclear reactor.
Its function is to contain the reactor core and safely transfer its heat to the steam generation systems, which power the plant and ensure its efficiency.
The start of this shipment marks a major milestone in the implementation of the El-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant project under Egypt’s peaceful nuclear energy program, reflecting steady progress and adherence to the execution timeline.
It is worth mentioning that, the manufacturing of the RPV took approximately 41 months, and it is scheduled to arrive in Egypt during the first week of November.
