The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has revealed on Wednesday the draw of the Champions League group stage.
Egypt's Al Ahly were pooled in a tough group, as they were drawn in Group B, alongside Platinum (Zimbabwe), Al-Hilal (Sudan), and Etoile du Sahel (Tunisia).
The winner from Zamalek and Generation Foot Champions League encounter, which is set to be replayed on Thursday, October 24, were pooled in Group A, alongside TP Mazembe (DR Congo), C.D. Primeiro de Agosto (Angola), ZESCO United F.C (Zambia). The group stage is set to be kicked off in November.
While the losing side will play in the second additional preliminary round of the Confederation Cup against Benin's ESAF FC.
CAF decided on Tuesday, October 8 to restage the Champions League match between Egypt’s Zamalek and Senegal’s Generation Foot in Cairo.
The Whites were due to host the Senegalese side at Cairo’s Petro Sport Stadium on Saturday, September 29, but the match was moved to Alexandria’s Borg Al Arab Stadium a day later due to claimed security reasons presented by Zamalek in an official letter to CAF.
The crisis sparkled after the Senegalese club refused to head to Alexandria, and they withdrew from the White Knights’ encounter in the second leg of the last 32.
The Four Groups are as follows:
Group A: C.D. Primeiro de Agosto, ZESCO United F.C (Zambia), Zamalek (Egypt) or Generation Foot (Senegal), TP Mazembe (DR Congo)
Group B: Platinum (Zimbabwe), Al-Hilal (Sudan), Etoile du Sahel (Tunisia), Al Ahly (Egypt)
Group C: Petro Atletico( Angola), USM Alger (Algeria), Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa), Wydad Athletic Club (Morocco)
Group D: JS Kabylie (Algeria), AS Vita (DR Congo), Raja Club Athletic (Morocco), Esperance of Tunisia (Tunisia)
