A “Death Note” live-action series is in development at Netflix.

The giant streamer previously released a live-action Death Note movie in 2017 directed by Adam Wingard and starring Nat Wolff.

It was adapted from a Japanese manga series by writer Tsugumi Ohba and illustrator Takeshi Obata.

The movie took the Japanese manga and translated it to Seattle, Washington, but kept the premise of a teenager discovering a book that kills anyone whose name is written in it.

Stranger Things' Creators, The Duffer Brothers, Have Worked on These Other Projects

Netflix announced Wednesday that the "Stranger Things" creators Matt and Ross Duffer have renewed their deal to develop multiple projects for the platform and formed the production company "Upside Down Pictures".

The production house was named for the dimension at the center of their sci-fi opus.

The "Stranger Things" creators are set to adapt the Death Note project under the new deal.

In a public statement about "Upside Down Pictures", the Duffer brothers announced that producer Hilary Leavitt has been tapped to head the studio and expressed confidence in her ability to make it a success.

They pointed out that the goal of the production company is to tell the kinds of stories that light them up as young movie lovers — “stories that take place at that beautiful crossroads where the ordinary meets the extraordinary, where big spectacle co-exists with intimate character work, where heart wins out over cynicism.”

"Upside Down Pictures" will produce a number of new series with similar narrative DNA to "Stranger Things".

In addition to a "Stranger Things" spinoff seires and stage play directed by Stephen Daldry, the production company is also developing an untitled original series created by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews.

The production company will also adapt existing properties including Curtis Gwinn’s take on Stephen King and Peter Straub’s "The Talisman".
