Culture Min. Celebrates 150th Anniv. of Opening Khedive Opera in Italy

Dr. Enas Abdel Dayem, Minister of Culture, said that the celebrating the 150th anniversary of the opening of the Khepe Opera out of the homeland confirms Egypt’s cultural leadership.

Egypt was the first country in the Arab region and the continent of Africa to establish an opera house.

Abdel Dayem noted that it was the cultural beacon in the Middle East for more than a century until it was burnt in 1971.

She added that Egypt was and will remain a forum for interaction between the countries of the world as well as a center of thoughts and culture.

It is worthy of note that the Egyptian Academy of Arts in Rome, under the supervision of Dr. Heba Youssef, and in cooperation with the Egyptian Opera House headed by Dr. Magdy Saber , has organized a huge artistic celebration.

The celebration was attended by Hisham Badr, Ambassador of Egypt in Italy and Enas Mekawi, Head of the Arab League Mission in Rome, a group of Arab, African diplomats and prominent figures in the Italian community.

The ceremony included screening a documentary film about the Egyptian opera art starting from the Khepe opera, followed by presenting a selection of the most famous classical international opera performed by a group of Cairo Opera Ensemble stars including: Iman Mustafa, Mona Rafla, Laila Ibrahim, Amr Ahmed, Adel Sabry.
