China has completed tests of a high-speed maglev train project known as the "flying train", which has a maximum speed of 1,000 kilometers per hour.
China's Science and Technology Daily reported on Monday that project representatives said this test has improved the overall technical maturity of the entire system, laying a solid technical foundation for the next test.
The demonstration was conducted in a low-vacuum pipe with a total length of 2 km, the first phase of the project.
A high-speed "flying train" may be launched to operate between groups of major cities. The report stated that travel time between Beijing and Shanghai may be shortened to only 90 minutes.
Elon Musk proposed the concept of a transportation system in a low-pressure tube in 2013, and called it Hyperloop, but his company focused on developing the system - Hyperloop One - closed its doors at the end of 2023.
