The Hainan Free Trade Port (FTP) One-Stop Aircraft Maintenance Base is rapidly expanding its global footprint, having serviced more than 2,400 aircraft since beginning operations in 2022, according to figures released this week.
According to Xinhua, staff members from Grand China Aviation Maintenance Co., Ltd., under HNA Technic, were seen conducting maintenance work on Friday at the Haikou facility, which has also completed full-body painting for over 280 aircraft and repaired nearly 60,000 aircraft components as of the end of October.
The fast-growing facility has attracted a rising number of international clients, including Qatar Airways, Royal Air Philippines, and Iberia, underscoring China’s ambition to position Hainan as a major global destination for high-end aviation services.
The base’s strong performance is supported by the Hainan FTP’s favorable regulations. Aircraft entering the region for maintenance are exempt from security deposits, while imported parts required for repairs benefit from bonded status — measures that significantly cut costs for global carriers.
Further momentum is expected when the FTP launches island-wide independent customs operations on December 18. The customs upgrade is set to enhance policy support for the aviation maintenance sector and strengthen Hainan’s competitiveness within the Asia-Pacific region.
The maintenance base forms a key part of China’s broader strategy to develop Hainan into a world-class free trade port driven by openness, innovation, and high-value service industries.
