China urged on Friday all involved parties in the East Asia peace process to enhance regional peace, stability, and development, instead of backing any sort of escalations.

Wang Wenbin, the spokesperson of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, statements came after the US-Japan's 2+2 talks about the situation in the region, alongside Japan's talks with Australia.

He also expressed China's opposition to any form of interference in internal affairs in the whole region, and all relevant countries to it.

The spokesperson also called for respecting the foregrounded regional cooperation framework and following the paths of dialogues.

Two days ago, the US and Japan will have a security consultative “2+2” meeting on January 6 to enhance the bilateral relations in the field of security, and to back both countries’ alliance for common-interest global challenges, and in the light of the developments of the Chinese assertiveness in the region.

The Spokesperson of the Secretary of State, Ned Price, announced on Twitter that the Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, and the Secretary of Defense, Loloyd Austin, and the US Defense Minister, Kishi Rahm Emmanuel, will have a virtual meeting with Japanese Foreign Minister, Hayashi Yoshimasa, and the Japanese Defense Minister, Kishi Nbou, on January 6.

The statement added: “During the meeting, the delegations will discuss ways the United States and Japan can strengthen our alliance to promote a free and open Indo-Pacific region and to address the COVID-19 pandemic, the climate crisis, and other global challenges.”
