China has successfully launched a new scientific satellite designed for Earth observation and geographic mapping, marking another milestone in the country’s expanding space program.

According to the Chinese state news agency Xinhua, the satellite, named Tianhui-7, was launched on Tuesday morning and will be used for aerial surveying, geographic mapping, land resource monitoring and scientific research.

The satellite was carried into space aboard a Long March-4B rocket, which lifted off from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center at exactly 12:12pm Beijing time. Tianhui-7 successfully entered its designated orbit, making the mission the 622nd space launch using China’s Long March rocket series.

The Long March-4B is a three-stage, liquid-fuel rocket measuring around 47 meters in length with a diameter of 3.8 meters. It is capable of carrying payloads weighing up to 2.5 tons into orbits approximately 700 kilometers above the Earth’s surface.

China continues to invest heavily in the development of its national space program, advancing satellite technologies for meteorology, communications and navigation. The country is also pursuing ambitious lunar exploration projects and state-backed missions to study asteroids and Mars.

In addition, China operates its own orbital space station, which authorities say is open to international scientific cooperation and space research projects. The launch of Tianhui-7 highlights Beijing’s growing role in Earth observation technology and its broader ambitions in space science and exploration.
