Chief Prosecutor Orders Arrest of Former Italian Consul in Luxor

Chancellor Nabil Ahmed Sadiq, Egypt’s Chief Prosecutor has ordered to arrest former honorary Italian consul in Luxor for accusations related to trading illegally in Egyptian antiquities.

The Egyptian Prosecution released a red warrant to arrest the Italian suspect whenever arrives at any sea or air ports in Egypt. The Chief Prosecutor also decided to refer a number of other suspects to criminal court.

He accuses them of smuggling 21.855 pieces of antiquities years ago. The Italian authorities had seized those pieces as a ship carrying them arrived a port in the south of the country.

It is worth mentioning that Egypt recovered the smuggles antiquities in July 2018 following direct communication between the Chief Prosecutor and the concerned authorities in Italy.

The Chief Prosecutor released a statement says that investigation revealed that   the former Italian counselor in Luxor, who is still on the run- plotted to smuggle the antiquities via Alexandria sea port.

The smuggled antiquities were hidden inside an Italian diplomatic container conveyed to Italy via Alexandria sea port. An official in the port intrigued with the Italian counselor.

The Chief Prosecutor affirmed that the national suspects were remanded until completing investigations. He licensed police to search house  of the Italian diplomat in Cairo. Law enforcement men found mire antiquities dated back to Ancient Egypt in the house.

The Italian counselor also rented a safe in a private bank to hide some precious artifacts.

It is worth mentioning that Egypt attempts to recover its antiquities all over the world. However, some countries are reluctant to return the Egyptian stolen artifacts. They claim that those pieces are the main items in their national museums. Among those countries are states in Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia.

This proves that the Egyptian antiquities, especially of the Pharaonic ones amaze the whole world.
