Chadian President Mohamed Deby started a diplomatic visit to Israel. As part of the two countries' efforts to strengthen their bilateral relations, he will meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu within the coming hours.

During Netanyahu's previous chairing of the Israeli government, a source announced in early 2019 the return of diplomatic relations with Chad after decades of severing relations between the two countries since 1972, during a visit described at that time as a "historic breakthrough."

According to Sky News Arabia, observers believe that this visit reflects the diplomatic and economic relations between Israel and Chad in recent years.

The former President of Chad, Idriss Deby, visited Israel in late 2018, then Netanyahu visited the capital, N'Djamena.

In May of last year, Israel appointed diplomat Ben Burgel as the first ambassador of Tel Aviv to Chad, in a move aimed primarily at strengthening bilateral relations.
