The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) has prepared the new version of future population projections for Egypt for the period 2022/72.
On the basis of the average assumption, the projection results indicate that the population will reach 119.3 million people in 2032, 146.3 million people in 2052, 159.8 million in 2072.
The increase is estimated at 56.2 million people over 50 years, which indicates a continued increase in the size of the population during the projection period driven by the population’s self-propelled force. But this increase will be decreasing, as a result of the slow pace of population growth.
The birth rate will continue to decline from 21.3 per thousand population in 2022, to reach 11 per thousand population in 2072.
The gradual decline in annual population growth rates from 1.5% during the period (2027-2022) to 0.2% during the period (2067-2072), which indicates that the period of doubling of the population in the future will not be less than 47 years.
