Egypt's Fish Production Increases by 1.7% in 2021: CAPMAS

Central Agency for Public Mobilization.and0Statistics (CAPMAS) issued Wednesday an Annual Bulletin of fish production Statistics for 2021.

The most important indicators are as follows:

-Total fish Production reached 2.0 million tons in 2021, compared to 2.01 million tons in 2020 a decrease of 0.43%, and the amount of fish production in natural fisheries (marine water, lakes and freshwater) reached 425.8 thousand tons in 2021 compared to 418.6 thousand tons in 2020, an increase by 1.7%.

Fish farms ranked first in terms of production, with a rate of 78.4%, followed by production in lakes by 12.8%, marine production by 4.8%, fresh water by 3.7%, and finally rice fields by 0.3% of the total of fish production.

- Fish production in fish farms and rice fields reached 1.58 million ton in 2021, compared to 1.59 million ton in 2020, a decrease of 1.0%, compared to the previous year.

- Bony fish group ranks first in Fish production (Tilapia, Mallet, Seabream, Musa, coral, etc...) with a percentage of 97.8%, followed by crustaceans (shrimps, crabs, etc ...) by 1.3%, then other varieties at the rate of 0.5%, followed by pulmonary (snails and shellfish) by 0.2%, then cartilaginous fish and Molluscs (squid) by 0.1% for each of total0fish0production.

Fish production in new national projects (for fish extraction) - Ghalliounp and- in Kafr El Sheikh governorate of marine fish reached 79 ton - of freshwater fish 565 ton, and shrimp production reached 833 ton.

- Production of seeds in the fish farms of Ghallion Pond of seabream reached 1.3 million seeds, of seabass 3.6 Million seeds. and of shrimp 654 Million seeds.

- Production of shrimp in fish farms at El-Dibeh Farm - West Port Said reached 123 ton, and Al Fayrouz fish farm 707 ton.
