Canada announced the suspension of using AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine for people whose ages are under 55, The Guardian reported on Tuesday.

The decision was backed by the National Advisory Committee on Immunization amid fears of blood clotting.

The vice-chair of the National Advisory Committee on Immunization Dr. Shelley Deeks said: “There is substantial uncertainty about the benefit of providing AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccines to adults under 55 given the potential risks.”

She asserted that new data asserted the possibility of the vaccine’s responsibility for forming blood clots to the adults.

Two weeks ago, the vaccine was halted by several European countries due to safety concerns, however, the major European medical regulator, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) asserted that the vaccine is safe and effective.

Many European medical experts urged the EU bloc states to use the vaccine for speeding up the process of the vaccination especially in the light of the third wave of Coronavirus.
